Welcome to the University of Calgary’s Family Medicine Postgraduate Family Medicine Program !
Whether you are a resident in our Core 2-Year Calgary or Rural residency programs, or in one of our Enhanced Skills specializations, be reassured you will be embarking on an amazing learning experience. Our training programs provide an opportunity for you to take what you have learned in medical school and build on the competencies you need to become an excellent Family Physician who can practice anywhere in Canada.
To make this happen, we will provide you with the learning opportunities and resources you need to achieve the competencies of the graduating Family Physician. We will provide great teaching by skilled preceptors who will concentrate on you as a Resident. We will go out of our way to support you throughout the Program, and we will make your health and well-being our number one priority. Our City Rural Core programs are unique and offer different experiences. Pay attention to this as you look through our site. Overall, we believe Southern Alberta is an amazing place to train.
If you are a practising Family Physician or recent Family Medicine graduate who wants to develop enhanced skills in a specific area, we provide the opportunity to do so in our Enhanced Skills program. As an Enhanced Skills resident you will gain the opportunity over 12 months to build your knowledge and skillset in one of our speciality areas: Care of the Elderly, Family Medicine Emergency Medicine, Family Practice Anaesthesia, Palliative Care, Addiction Medicine, Maternal Newborn Care, Health Equity, and Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Check us out, get to know our leadership teams and residents, and begin to understand what makes the University of Calgary so special!
